Worry?

We all worry at times. We worry about our families, our health, our finances, our future, our circumstances and things that are completely outside our control.

Sometimes we know we should trust God, but our minds keep going back to the problem. Sometimes we get consumed with our worries and our thoughts rage inside our minds.

We wonder, “What if?”

What if something goes wrong? What if God doesn’t answer my prayer the way I want? What if I make the wrong choice or decision? What if this happens or that happens? What if the future doesn’t turn out the way I planned?

God tells us something different.

Trust God Completely

God asks us to trust Him completely, even when we do not understand what He is doing. We cannot see the whole picture. Only God can.

We only see today. God sees yesterday, today and tomorrow. He knows what is coming and He already knows how He will lead us through it. We just need to trust and follow Him.

Proverbs 3:5-6 says:

Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and do not rely on your own understanding. Acknowledge him in all your ways, and he will make your paths straight.

Trusting God means letting go of our need to understand everything. It means believing that His wisdom is greater than ours and His plans are better than ours.

We must trust Him for He is in complete control. When we do we will find His peace and rest. If we don’t we be troubled by worry, confusion and fear.

God Is in Control

God is sovereign.

Nothing surprises Him. Nothing is outside His knowledge or beyond His ability. He knows everything. He sees everything. He works in everything.

The Psalms repeatedly remind us that God is our refuge, our strength and our hope.

Psalm 46:10 says:

He says, “Stop your striving and recognize that I am God. I will be exalted over the nations! I will be exalted over the earth!”

Sometimes we need to stop striving. Stop trying to figure everything out. Stop carrying what God never asked us to carry.

Give it to Him. Let go and let Him.

Psalm 55:22 tells us:

Throw your burden upon the LORD,and he will sustain you. He will never allow the godly to be shaken.

Jesus Tells Us Not to Worry

Jesus knew that we would struggle with worry. He lived life and knows us. He told us there would be troubles in this life, but to focus on Him instead for He has overcome the world.

In Matthew 6, Jesus tells us not to worry about our life, what we will eat or drink, or what we will wear. He points us toward the birds of the sky and the flowers of the field and reminds us that our heavenly Father cares for them.

If God cares for His creation, how much more does He care for us? We are much more important to Him. He loves us and died for us. He created us and thinks about us always. He sings and rejoices over us.

Jesus says in Matthew 6:34:

So then, do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Today has enough trouble of its own.

Worry takes us into tomorrow before tomorrow ever arrives. Worry makes us focus on the issues of the future rather than today.

God gives us grace for today. He gives us strength for today. In faith we can instead focus on Him for what we need today.

His Plans Are Good

We may not understand what God is doing. We may not like the circumstances we are facing. We may pray and wonder why the answer has not come.

But we can still trust Him.

Jeremiah 29:11 reminds us that God knows the plans He has for His people. His plans are for good, for a future and a hope.

God is our hope. He is not careless with our lives. He is not just reacting to our life circumstances and problems.

He is working even when we cannot see Him working. He is in everything. He knows everything. He understands everything. He feels everything. He works in it all for our good.

God Works for Our Good

This is where our hope in Christ becomes so important.

Romans 8:28 tells us that God works all things together for the good of those who love Him and are called according to His purpose.

It does not say that everything that happens is good. It says God is working good in all things.

Some things are painful. Some things are difficult. Some things are outright terrible. There are things we would never choose. There are paths we never wanted to take. Things suddenly happen or we unexpectedly find ourselves in something we never saw coming.

But God can work through all of it. God sees it all. He knows all our life. He works in it all. He pieces it all together.

He can take our struggles, troubles, disappointments, unanswered prayers and difficult circumstances and use them for His purposes.

We can trust His hands working even when we cannot understand His plan. He is creating good, something beautiful out of hurt, pain, confusion, grief, heartache, trauma, difficulties, problems, suffering and anything else we face in life.

Give Your Worry to God

So when worry begins, shift your focus to God. Stop and turn toward God.

Pray and give your worries to God. Tell Him exactly what you are worried about and put it in His hands. Surrender it to Him.

You may have to do this more than once. Trust is something we learn as we walk with God.

We do not have to know what tomorrow holds. We only need to know who holds tomorrow.

God is faithful.

God is sovereign.

God loves us.

And God is with us always.

We can rest in Him.

by casting all your cares on him because he cares for you.
