God came as a human, just like us, yet he was fully God and fully human. Jesus experienced life in this world just like us. He grew up, He had siblings, He learned a trade, He attended synagogue, He participated in the traditions of His people and faith. (John 1:14, Romans 9:5)

He also knew fear, temptation, struggle, turmoil, grief, sorrow, loss, loneliness, abandonment, pain, suffering, ridicule, taunting, homelessness, rejection and poverty. (Matthew 8:20, John 7:5, John 6:66-67)

He had emotions just like us. He grieved the loss of His friend Lazarus. He grieved over the choice Judas made in betraying Him. (Mark3:5, Luke 19:41)

He struggled with accepting God’s will on His life, asking for His cup of suffering to be removed, but ultimately accepting God’s will and asking for it to be done, not His will. (Matthew 26:39)

He was persecuted and run out of towns and villages. He was mocked, rejected and ridiculed by those He came to save. (Matthew 8:34, Mark 8:31, Luke 17:25, John 1:11)

Jesus Understands

Because He lived this life in human form among us, God understands. He knows what things feel like. He gets the struggles and hardships. He feels our pain and sadness. (Hebrews 4:15)

We Are Fully Known 

Because He created us and knows us fully, He understands us most deeply. He knows our inmost being. He made us each with purpose and loves us more than we can imagine. (Psalm 139:13-14, Psalm 139:15-16, Psalm 139:17-18)

People Jesus Met

Jesus encountered many people in His ministry. A gentile woman was persistent. Jesus turned her down several times. Her request was healing for her child. Jesus explained He came from Jews first, that was His purpose. After seeing the persistent faith of the woman, Jesus healed her child because He understood her predicament and saw her true faith. She believed and trusted Christ. Christ encountered many people with faith and showed understanding and compassion. (Matthew 15:22-23, Matthew 15:24-25, Matthew 15:26-27, Matthew 15:28)

Another example is a child Jesus healed when everyone else thought she was dead. Jesus made all the mourners leave the room. He only allowed the parents and a couple of His disciples. Jesus took the girl by her hand and headed her. She got up and Jesus told her parents to get her something to eat. Jesus knew their need and understood. (Mark 5:35, Mark 5:36-37, Mark 5:38-39, Mark 5:40-41, Mark 5:42-43)

Jesus healed another woman after suffering many years of bleeding. This time the woman came to Jesus in a crowd and touched the hem of His clothes as He passed by her. Jesus felt healing power go out from Him and asked who touched Him.  His disciples insisted anyone could have because of the crowd. The woman came forward and fell at His feet. Jesus spoke kindly to her, calling her daughter and telling her she had been healed. He saw her need. He didn’t reprimand her, he had understanding and compassion on her. (Mark 5:25-26, Mark 5:27-28, Mark 5:29-30, Mark 5:31-32, Mark 5:33-34)

Jesus Feels

He not only understands, he feels. He knows what being human is like. He had hardships and trials too. He feels our hurt and hurts for us. He knows what it’s like to live in this world. He is there for us always. (Luke 4:1-2, Hebrews 4:15)

The Emotional Side

Jesus had feelings too. The world and people He came to, caused Him much pain and grief. Jesus ultimately suffered tremendously on the cross for us. He took it upon Himself, our sin and guilt. He did it to give us the gift of salvation and the victory we have in Him through all things. If we give Him everything each day we will find His peace and power within us. (Mark3:5, Matthew 26:37, Matthew 17:17)

The Life Experiences of Jesus 

Jesus wept at Lazarus’s grave. His friend had died and He grieved. God grieves with us. (John 11:35-36)

Jesus grew emotional before Judas’s betrayal of Him to the authorities. Jesus knew what Judas was planning and He felt sorry for the choice Judas made. Jesus told Judas to go and do what he had planned quickly. God is saddened by our choices when we turn away from Him, but He does not force us to choose and follow Him. He offers forgiveness and mercy when we return. (John 13:21, John 13:27, Matthew 26:47-48, Matthew 26:49-50)

Before Jesus’s arrest, when He prayed in the garden, Jesus struggled with God’s will and His will. God strengthened and encouraged Jesus. Christ was is so much turmoil inside Himself that he sweated blood and cried out to God, praying many hours. Jesus gave up His will for God’s will making a way for all humanity to return to Him. (Matthew 26:38-39, Luke 22:43-44)

Jesus Cares

Whatever we go through, whatever problems we face, God cares. He cares for us each day. His love covers us everywhere we go. Jesus cares about the details of our life, the every day and every moment. We can go to Him anytime always for help and support. (Psalm 68:19, 1 Peter 5:7)

Our Hope

Jesus is there for us. He watches over us. He is right by our side. He can handle anything we give Him. He can guide and direct us. He is our rock. He is our strength. He is our peace. Through His power we can do anything. (Romans 8:31, Zephaniah 3:17)

In Jesus’s Life

When Mary and Martha’s brother Lazarus died, Jesus came. Jesus comforted them. He told them to believe, to trust Him. Jesus had waited to come which lead to Lazarus dying. Jesus asked them to trust His timing. We can trust God’s timing in everything. (John 11:21-22, John 11:23-24, John 11:25-26, John 11:27-29, John 11:32-33, John 11:34-35, John 11:38-39, John 11:40-41)

Jesus had compassion on the sick and disabled. He healed them everywhere He went. He saw their needs and met them. He saw their faith and in response had empathy and mercy on them. (Matthew 20:34, Mark 1:41, Luke 7:13-15)

Jesus Sees

God sees our life. He knows from beginning to end, all we experience, every day of our life. We are not invisible and God is not far off. He is with us. He sees us. (Psalm 34:18, Psalm 147:3)

God Knows 

He knows every situation and looks past what the world may see into our hearts. He has compassion and love for us. He knows every struggle and joy in our life. God sees what we hide from the world and pretend we are fine. He sees what is private. Jesus is there for us through it all. (2 Corinthians 1:3-4, 2 Corinthians 7:6, Matthew 5:3-6, Matthew 5:7-10)

Compassion of God

Jesus had compassion on all the crowds that gathered around Him. He saw them

as lost and needing truth. He saw their real need. He saw them as they were. He taught and cared for them. He showed them His love and told them the truth about God. (Matthew 14:14, Mark 6:34, Matthew 9:36)

Jesus Our Companion 

We have a friend that will stay with us forever. His promises and presence are ours. He surrounds us with His support and love. God will never leave us. He is always reachable and there for us. We can talk to Him anytime. (John 6:35, John 6:37)

God is Our Everything 

Jesus is our best friend, comforter, peace, hope, supporter, encourager, steady constant, help, life and much more. (1 Thessalonians 5:23-24, 2 Thessalonians 2:14-15)

We can trust God fully. God came and He understands, sees, feels, cares and loves us deeply. He is forever faithful to us. He lived this life. He made a way back to Him. (Luke 19:10, Psalm 62:8, Proverbs 3:5-6, 1 John 5:20)

Jesus Humanized 

He lived life too. He experienced unjust accusations, insults, mockery. He was pushed aside, written off and not believed or taken seriously. He had problems like us

He felt like us. He grieved, experienced extremely loneliness and sadness and was rejected throughout His life. 

He understands and sees your life too. He feels for you and has compassion and mercy on you. He cares about you. He cares about your life. (Philippians 4:19, Romans 8:35-36, Romans 8:37-39)
