We think God can’t accept us, after what we have done or our past or the burden we carry. We may think we are too far gone. We might think we are too scarred. We think we have to gain God’s love and approval. We think God can’t forgive us for what we have done. We see with human eyes. We see as the world does. We base our judgment or evaluation of ourselves on the wisdom, feelings, logic, and lies of the world around us. We go by what other people say or think about us and people around us. We are blinded by what seems and feels like it should be true.
The Lies
We believe lies that we are not good enough, not smart enough, that we are inadequate in some way. Our life history, our background, our failures, our past mistakes, our brokenness can’t possibly be what God wants and what God’s love can cover. He can’t love the mess we are. God can’t accept us as we are. We must fix ourselves before God can accept us. (Matthew 16:23)
In Truth
God sees us differently. He sees through eyes of grace. God loves us just as we are. God accepts us just as we are. God will forgive us for whatever we have done. God will transform our past and use it for good. He will work in our brokenness and our mistakes and messes. God will work within us and make us new, renewing our hearts and minds in Him. God will take our mess, our burden, our past, our inadequacies and rework and recreate them for our good and His glory. (Matthew 11:28-30)
God’s Love
God sent His son to take our past, our mistakes and failures on Himself in our place. That’s how much God loves you. He did it for you, thinking of you. He would rather give His life for you so you can live with Him forever, than for you to be separated from Him forever. Our sins and mistakes separate us from God, but His love can cover it all if we believe.(1 Timothy 2:3-6)
God’s Grace
God will accept you, just accept Him. Accept what He did for you. Accept His forgiveness. His grace will remove all your wrongs as far as the east is from the west. God will forgive and forget them all. God’s grace is His free gift to you. He offers it unconditionally. He reaches out in love and acceptance. He longs for us to believe Him. He longs for us to accept and know Him. He will not force us to accept Him, but in His love and grace He will reach out to us. (Acts 4:12, Romans 10:9)
Who We Are
We are God’s creation. God made us perfectly and knows us inside and out. He knew and saw us before creation, before time. He cares deeply for us. He has a purpose and plan for us. He offers hope and a future. He draws us to Himself. (Psalm 139:13-14, Psalm 139:15-16, Psalm 139:17-18, Ephesians 2:10)
Look to God
God is our everything. He is our steady ground, our refuge and rock. He sent His son, Jesus, to take our sin, our mess and brokenness so He can give us new life in Him if we believe in Him. Jesus is the way, the truth and the life. He is the only true God and He loves you. He wants to work in your life and remake it anew. He will shower His grace over your life. Go to Him now. (Proverbs 3:5, Psalm 115:11, Psalm 62:8)
