Learning who God is makes a complete difference in our perspective in life and our everyday. He is both creator and our friend. He wants a relationship with His creation.

Read Part 1 & Part 2.

God is Patient with Us

He patiently and gently works in us as we go through life. God’s loving kindness draws us to Him and renews us from within. God restores and remakes us, taking the sin and old habits out of us and replacing them with Himself so we transform more into Christ’s likeness.

Romans 12:2

Do not be conformed to this present world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may test and approve what is the will of God—what is good and well-pleasing and perfect.

Psalms 103:8

The LORD is compassionate and merciful; he is patient and demonstrates great loyal love.

He Doesn’t want Any to Perish

God patiently endures the sinfulness of man so He can draw us to Himself. He may seem slow in returning and in His plans for us, but it is really His love for us. He doesn’t want people to perish without Him and be separated from Him forever. Instead He holds back and gives us time to return to Him.

2 Peter 3:9

The Lord is not slow concerning his promise, as some regard slowness, but is being patient toward you because he does not wish for any to perish but for all to come to repentance.

He Gently Works Within

When we believe and start following God, He doesn’t throw everything on us that we need to change or teach us everything at once and expect us to do it all. Instead God slowly moves in us, gradually revealing and teaching us how to live in Him. He shows us Himself one piece at a time. He asks us to submit to His Spirit. The more we submit and obey the more we grow closer to Him and more like Him.

2 Timothy 1:9-10

He is the one who saved us and called us with a holy calling, not based on our works but on his own purpose and grace, granted to us in Christ Jesus before time began, but now made visible through the appearing of our Savior Christ Jesus. He has broken the power of death and brought life and immortality to light through the gospel!

His Grace is Sufficient

God’s grace is enough for us. His grace supports us in everything. His grace is always accessible. Wherever or whenever we feel weak we can rest in God’s strength through His grace. We can trust Him to fill in and hold us. Just ask Him. He lives in us and through Him we have His power to do anything.

2 Corinthians 9:8

And God is able to make all grace overflow to you so that because you have enough of everything in every way at all times, you will overflow in every good work.

2 Corinthians 12:9

But he said to me, “My grace is enough for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” So then, I will boast most gladly about my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may reside in me.

Philippians 4:13

I am able to do all things through the one who strengthens me.

God is Sovereign over All

He orchestrates life. He created life. He is sovereign over everything. God knows the future and the past. He allows and disallows. Nothing comes to us without going through God first. God uses everything in our life for our good.

Psalms 140:7 O

Sovereign LORD, my strong deliverer, you shield my head in the day of battle.

Psalms 71:5

For you are my hope; O Sovereign LORD, I have trusted in you since I was young.

Trusting God

We can rest in His goodness and love for us as His children. His peace can reign in our hearts. Faith and trust go hand in hand. God’s Word and our experiences  throughout our walk with God can strengthen our faith and trust in God. Jesus told Martha to believe when her brother Lazarus died and when she  second guessed Jesus’s instructions, He gently reminded her to trust Him. He asks the same of us. To lay whatever situation or problems at Jesus’s feet. Give it to Him and surrender and trust Him.

John 11:38-40

Jesus, intensely moved again, came to the tomb. (Now it was a cave, and a stone was placed across it.) Jesus said, “Take away the stone.” Martha, the sister of the deceased, replied, “Lord, by this time the body will have a bad smell because he has been buried four days.” Jesus responded, “Didn’t I tell you that if you believe, you would see the glory of God?”

Obeying God

When we choose God and obey in faith we find hope and increase our trust and knowledge of God. We see Him clearer and learn more of His ways and who He is. We understand His goodness and grace towards us. Obeying and trusting God is not easy at times. Know that God will never give you anything you can’t handle with Him. Everything passes through Him first before affecting us. Everything God does and allows is filtered through His love. We can trust and obey God in faith. Even when it is hard, hold tight to Him.

1 Corinthians 10:13

No trial has overtaken you that is not faced by others. And God is faithful: He will not let you be tried beyond what you are able to bear, but with the trial will also provide a way out so that you may be able to endure it.

Victory in Christ

Through Christ we have victory in all things. God will help us in anything always.  We can overcome through Him. In the end God will have complete victory over evil and He will make all things new. Whatever we may be struggling with, God will help us if we trust Him. We can give Him all. Watch Him work when you surrender and ask for help.

1 Corinthians 15:57

But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ!

Romans 8:35-39

Who will separate us from the love of Christ? Will trouble, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or danger, or sword? As it is written, “For your sake we encounter death all day long; we were considered as sheep to be slaughtered.” No, in all these things we have complete victory through him who loved us! For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor heavenly rulers, nor things that are present, nor things to come, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor anything else in creation will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.

God is Awesome

God is everything we could possibly want and more than we can know or understand humanly. God is not like us in that He doesn’t see as we do as humans or as the world does. He is not moved by moods or have an agenda or is selfish in any way. He is perfect in all He does. He is good in all He does. His ways are above ours. His thoughts go far beyond ours. He is love, true love not like the world’s love. He graciously gives. He freely gave His life for us. We can put our trust in Him fully and forever.

Isaiah  55:8-9

“Indeed, my plans are not like your plans, and my deeds are not like your deeds,” says the LORD, “for just as the sky is higher than the earth, so my deeds are superior to your deeds and my plans superior to your plans.”

Daniel  4:34-37

But at the end of the appointed time I, Nebuchadnezzar, looked up toward heaven, and my sanity returned to me. I extolled the Most High, and I praised and glorified the one who lives forever. For his authority is an everlasting authority, and his kingdom extends from one generation to the next. All the inhabitants of the earth are regarded as nothing. He does as he wishes with the army of heaven and with those who inhabit the earth. No one slaps his hand and says to him, “What have you done?” At that time my sanity returned to me. I was restored to the honor of my kingdom, and my splendor returned to me. My ministers and my nobles were seeking me out, and I was reinstated over my kingdom. I became even greater than before. Now I, Nebuchadnezzar, praise and exalt and glorify the King of heaven, for all his deeds are right and his ways are just. He is able to bring down those who live in pride.

Ephesians 3:20-21

Now to him who by the power that is working within us is able to do far beyond all that we ask or think, to him be the glory in the church and in Christ Jesus to all generations, forever and ever. Amen.
