Have we forgotten God? Have you forgotten God?
As a society, as a nation, as people are we forgetting God?
Everyday we make choices and decisions. We either follow God or ignore Him. God is always there. He is always nudging us, prompting us, convicting us, gently guiding us. Through His Spirit, through our conscious, God speaks. (Romans 2:15-16)
Do we listen? Do we hear? (Hebrews 3:25)
God in Life
God is everywhere in life. If we open our eyes we can see Him. God is shown in nature, people, circumstances, actions and even problems. His characteristics show throughout the world around us. (Romans 1:20)
His kindness, love, mercy, and grace can be found everywhere.
Even His justice, power and holiness can be found in life.
He allows things in life to draw us to Himself, to convict us and show us our sin and need of a savior.
He uses the pride and arrogance of men to bring about justice in this life or the next. (1 Peter 2:15)
He uses the things this world throws away and considers nothing to show His power. (1 Corinthians 1:27)
He is our creator and loves us deeply. He longs for us to follow Him, to choose Him.
It hurts Him when we forget and reject Him.
God in our Hearts
God is within us. God has placed the knowledge of Himself in all mankind. We are without excuse for not knowing Him. As Christians we have His Spirit in us, guiding us. (Romans 1:19)
But we must listen and obey.
How do we make the choice to obey God?
We can only do this through God’s power in us through His Spirit. We start with each day humbling ourselves before God. We start with God at the beginning of our day. We learn to pray always in everything as we go about our day. Humbly seeking His will and ways. We make God the center of our life seeking Him in all things. (Romans 12:1)
Everything revolves around God. He is our helper and sustainer in all. (Hebrews 1:3)
Then we end each day with Him with a prayerful and thankful heart praising God for His help for that day.
As we center our thoughts on Him and choose to listen we will find His peace over our lives. (Isaiah 26:3)
Conscious Reasoning
Through justification and compromise we ignore God. We make excuses and reasons why it is fine.
If we would only seek Him first. We would not be so easily tricked by the lies of satan. (James 1:14-16, 1 Corinthians 11:14, Ephesians 4:27)
Adam and Eve chose to ignore God. They then questioned God’s commands and goodness of His rules and boundaries. They questioned His authority and through pride wanted knowledge and to be like God. When God questioned them they rationalized and made excuses. (Genesis 3:12-13, Genesis 3:2-5)
God cannot be fooled. (Galatians 6:7)
Consequences
All actions and words have consequences. God doesn’t want us to face consequences. That is why He reaches out to us. (Deuteronomy 8:5)
He warns us. He sets boundaries for us. He convicts us. He speaks to us.
He does all this because He loves us. We can stray from Him and go our own way and think we know best. There will always be a harvest to our actions. We will find ourselves on a wrong path with unintended results. When we look back we can find the reason, the place we left God. (Hebrews 12:11)
God allows us to experience consequences out of His love for us. Just like a good parent, He disciplines us. His goal is not to harm us, but to correct us and bring us back in alignment with His will for us. (Hebrews 12:10)
The Only Hope
God offers forgiveness and second chances. Returning to God as soon as we realize our mistake and repenting from our sin quickly and choosing to follow God’s way again is the wisest course of action. (Acts 3:19-20)
Through Christ’s sacrifice we have reconciliation with God. When we turn from our sin back to God, He restores our relationship with Him. Sin breaks our relationship and bond with Christ.
Choose to follow and listen to God. Humbly return and repent and leave your sin behind you. Through relying on God’s strength we can overcome temptation and the sin we get stuck in. (1 Corinthians 10:13, Hebrews 12:1-2)
Why God is the Way
Look at society and the world and see the consequences of sin, of the evil in our hearts apart from God. Nature and our souls all long for Christ’s return when He will make all things new. Jesus predicted the future consequences of sin when He predicted His return. (Romans 8:22-23, Matthew 24:6, Matthew 24:7, Matthew 24:8, Luke 21:9)
Even so we as God’s children are called to be light in this dark world. We need to continually consciously choose God every day and moment, not forget and forsake Him. He is our hope and way. (Luke 11:26, Matthew 5:14, Matthew 5:15, Matthew 5:16)
He knows best and loves and cares about us deeply. He knows the right path even if that path doesn’t seem right a first. He will never lead us astray and will never contradict His Word as He guides us.
He knows all things and knows us better than we know ourselves because He created us. (Isaiah 55:8, Isaiah 55:9)
Remember & Choose God Again
We all have a choice. Each generation has a choice. Choose God and don’t forget Him. Choose life in Him. (Deuteronomy 30:19)
Living on our own without God always leads to disaster. It is not How we were meant to live.
God created us to walk with Him. To commune with Him and have His peace in this life as well as the joy of our salvation and being close to Him.
Hear God now and always. Then listen to Him and apply what He says to your everyday life. Let Him be your guide and helper in everything. (Matthew 7:24-27)
